  • Contact lens solution always available
Unless you wear daily replacement contact lenses (also called "daily"), don't wait until the end of the day to discover that you've run out of cleaning solution.
  • Always keep a spare bottle of solution, it will help you to avoid this situation.

This is especially important because we have to use fresh, clean cleaning solution every time we touch our contact lenses.

  • Never use running water to clean your contact lenses, as it may contain impurities and resistant, infectious microorganisms.

Tips for putting in and taking out contact lenses:

  • Wash and dry your hands before inserting or removing contact lenses.

Any particles you get on your hands from touching your lenses could end up in your eyes. Wash your hands with an antibacterial soap and dry them thoroughly before touching your contact lenses.

Avoid using oil-based or perfumed creams or soaps before touching the lenses, as this may contaminate or smear an oily film, which is very uncomfortable and itchy for the eyes.

  • Always start with the same eye when putting in your lenses.

When you put in your contact lenses, always start with the same eye to reduce the chance of confusing the lenses. Yes, just like shoes, the lens in your left eye and the lens in your right eye are different. This way you avoid passing possible infections from one eye to the other and also avoid seeing badly due to differences in prescription.

  • Place the contact lens in the palm of your hand.

Hold the contact lens in the palm of your hand. Hold it in the case with the tip of your index finger only, if you grip it with both fingers, you increase the chance of cracking it with your fingernails. Fingernails can damage the lens surface and are also a breeding ground for bacteria.

  • Remove your lenses if you notice pain or discomfort, eyestrain, excessive tearing and sudden or prolonged redness.

If you feel pain or discomfort after putting in your contact lenses, or if your eyes are red, take them out as soon as possible. Pain and discomfort is your eyes' way of telling you that something is causing problems.

If this happens to you repeatedly, contact our optometrists at opticagracia.com to schedule a visit if necessary to check if you are wearing your contact lenses correctly and correctly.
