How do you know if you have glaucoma? What is glaucoma?
We thought it would be useful for you to know a little more about this disease.
Glaucoma is one of those diseases that you don't realise you have it until it is too late because the disease is advanced. It is initially asymptomatic.
It is considered to be an optic neuropathy, usually of the optic nerve, which is responsible for transmitting the information received in the retina to the brain.
Symptoms:
There are no symptoms at the beginning and it starts with slight alterations in the more peripheral visual field, sometimes with high intraocular pressure, but this may not be detected either. When the disease progresses, blind areas are created in the retina that grow over time and can approach the macula, which is the central area through which we see all the detail.
It is important that we can carry out a complete visual examination so that at OPTICA GRACIA we can detect certain signs, such as taking intraocular pressure and taking photographs and retinal scans.
If we find obvious signs of glaucoma or just doubts, we will draw up an optometric report to help you so that you can go to the doctor you trust.
Treatment:
There is currently no cure for glaucoma but it can be stopped or even prevented.
The ophthalmologist prescribes medication in the form of eye drops (drops to lower the pressure) and sometimes it can even improve with minor surgery (iridotomy).
‼️Lo prevention and early detection is the most important, therefore ‼️
The OPTICA GRACIA team makes it easy for you to go for your annual check-up and you can rest assured.
Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness in the world in people over 60 years of age.
